Second element of my Persian army from the very end of this empire, conquered by Alexander The Great, is next 2Ps element, slingers this time. They are clad in traditional Medes clothes, probably some local unit from the centre of the kingdom - if they were from one of the border satrapies, they would be drawn from local people or mercenaries, like Cretan slingers or archers. Painting these miniatures I wanted them to look far more ordinary then previously painted archers - so colors are much more toned down and natural and there are no ornaments on the clothes. I've changed a way I paint too, washes are very sparingly used on them - mainly on skin and leather equipment. Rest of the miniature is painted in very traditional, old fashioned way - first very dark tone of the basic color (representing shadows), then some blended layers for main color and highlights next. I think miniatures look a little "cleaner" that way, as if they would be bathed in The Middle East sun. Or so I hope:)
