Rydwan galijski | Gallic chariot

First chariot is ready, two more to paint, including one with more elaborate paint scheme as it belongs to the chieftain (optional command element). Well, the one below took me quite a lot of time and effort - and final result seems to be not so great after all. Trousers, shading on horses and chariot body, everything seems to blur, maybe due to scale. I think the worst part of the model are wheels, spokes specifically. I wanted to paint them dirty and mud smeared and they look just ugly:) But to be honest I rather like this model, it certainly has a lot of "feel".
I added reins to the charioteer, they are made from thin stripes of painted paper, making tougher with application of superglue. There should be two pairs of them but I decided to make only one as I think four stripes would be diverting attention from the horses and charioteer too much. Worst part of the model was base. I couldn't fit chariot without overhanging some parts. Finally I decided to move a horse a little to the front as it is more unlikely that it will come off then javelinman on the chariot (who will take with himself a lot of paint from the body of the chariot). Painting the base was a pita too - horses legs and chariot wheels are so close that it was really hard to paint sand and not miniature itself. It took me one whole evening to make the base - long even for my standards.
